The Story Behind The Shot: “Motorcycle Riding In Dehradun, India.”

THE STORY BEHIND THE SHOT.

“Among the hundreds of things that I could say about Dehradun, India and the people that live there, TWO stand out the most when I look at this picture…both contain references to their motorcycle laws.”

“A) Only the person operating the motorcycle/moped/scooter must wear a helmet. Anyone else on board (this number can sometimes reach 4…yes, 4 persons) is not required to wear one.”

“B) The women ride side-saddle (yes…side-saddle) unless they’re in front. This is not only dangerous because of the shift in weight during turns, but also because most of the women wear long, traditional dresses which I’d bet are occasionally snatched up in the rear tire.”"

  1. Great commentary on India, F. I was there for awhile and found it pretty surreal…

    • Thanks Jules.

I have to admit…it was a magical place. Would love to make it back there some day.
